Ferdinand Magellan rebels against the greedy Portuguese government, which does not support his dream of discovering the world. Finally, he convinces King Charles of Spain to finance his daring expedition to the legendary lands of the East. The months-long journey across the Pacific Ocean is exhausting: the crew is starving, and a mutiny is brewing. Upon reaching the archipelago, Magellan’s mindset begins to change – idealism is replaced by paranoia, and dreams by tyranny, directed both against the crew and the inhabitants of the islands, later named the Philippines.
