Seventh-grader Dawn is having a hard time fitting in. She doesn’t look like a model on the cover of a magazine, and the world around her is nothing like Hollywood. Yet Dawn feels like a grown-up, one could even say a real woman. Determined to prove her maturity, the teenager decides it’s time to get a boyfriend: not just any nerd, but the toughest, most handsome and the most desirable guy in school. She gets advice from her brother: guys only want one thing, and if you give it to them, you’re supposedly guaranteed to win any heart.

“Director Todd Solondz is an important figure in the history of American independent cinema. His humor is dark, perverse, and often at odds not only with social norms but even with realism itself. Through his grimy lens, he examines sensitive themes such as coming of age and sexual identity. Solondz makes that which is uncomfortable even more uncomfortable. Awkward to watch? Sometimes. Funny? Very. (Programme curator Vladas Rožėnas)
