Twelve-year-old Zafan rebels against the strict Islamic religious school and spends her days swimming in a lake with her best friends. But everything changes when she is the first in the class to get her period. At the same time, rumors begin to spread that a terrible creature is lurking in the thick of the forest. Outcast by her peers and the village community, Zafan must decide whether to succumb to societal pressures and conform or embrace her beastlike side.
