A child climbs out of a wrecked car, picks up a turtle, and sets off on a long walk against the backdrop of the setting sun. Along the way, she explains to the turtle the origin of humankind. Meet Moon – a girl wandering around the post-apocalyptic world where adults no longer exist, and the remnants of the old world have become a playground for children. The young inhabitants of this world spend their days learning mysterious rituals rather than mathematics, ways of communicating with animals, and the art of survival; their games resemble rites.

“The magic of the film lies in its ambiguity. We never learn exactly what happened to the rest of the world, but that is not what matters most. The director focuses on the very moment of being, the turtle held in a child’s hands, the rustling of wind in the tall grass, the sense of community born of necessity and instinct. This is cinema that demands patience from the viewer but rewards it with complete immersion into another reality – a visual poem about the end of the world and its new beginning.” (Programme curator Karolis Žukas)
