Fren works as an HR specialist in a large company located in the skyscraper jungle of Bangkok. She is constantly dealing with problems: employee June’s absences and the hopeless search for a new hire to fill a vacant position. But Fren carries more than just the burden of the office; she is also carrying a baby. The doctor’s advice to “avoid stress and control emotions” sounds painfully ironic in a world that demands maximum productivity.

“Bringing new life into the world – alongside the experience of death –forces us to reflect on the true meaning of life and its connections to society, economics, politics, religion, and science. The decline in birth rates observed in many parts of the world over the past decade reflects the overall mood of this era. Human Resource is a film that captures modern life with remarkable precision, the changing definition of family, and existence in a world where pregnancy becomes a negotiation with capitalism.” (Programme curator Karolis Žukas)
