War is a human tragedy, but we should not forget that nature suffers alongside us. Without a narrator’s voice, the film unfolds like a metaphysical symphony: we see forests turned to ash, fields scarred by explosions, and the skeletal remains of military equipment. And yet nature does not give up – nor does man. While one side sows death, the other – deminers, body recovery teams, and ecologists – document the aftermath of the tragedy and try to restore Ukraine’s fragile ecosystems. Even with the war still thundering on the horizon, a persistent rebirth is taking place here.

This film may contain scenes that some viewers may find distressing.

“The best way to watch Divia is with as little previous knowledge as possible. Although it is by far not one of those films that try to captivate you with the beauty of nature. Rather, it is an attempt to show – using images alone, without words – that environmental protection is not a separate field whose problems can be solved in a vacuum. It is intertwined with all the other social and political issues that we, too often, try to address as if in a vacuum. Divia does precisely this – it fills that vacuum up.” (Programme curator Vladas Rožėnas)
