Made in Taiwan
Three lonely souls wander the streets of Taipei. Unbeknownst to one another, they all have keys to the same empty apartment. A real estate agent uses it to meet her lover, and a street vendor who steals the key turns it into a refuge. The apartment becomes a shared sanctuary – a place to sleep, grieve, and perform their personal rituals of life. They share the same bed, the same bathroom, and the same emptiness, yet remain invisible to each other.

“Tsai Ming-liang captures people in Taipei searching for meaning, yearning for love and intimacy during a real estate boom. Since homeownership has become increasingly unaffordable and dating apps have made sex easier but love more difficult, the film Vive L’amour seems more relevant than ever. On New Year’s Eve, a flash mob takes place in Daan Forest Park – people gather not only to celebrate, but also to sit together and cry, paying tribute to this film.” (Programme curator Karolis Žukas)
