While taking and printing photographs, Romualdas Požerskis did not know if he would ever be able to show them, but he believed the action itself to be a form of resistance. From female nudes to freedom struggles, religious festivals, and uninhibited frames at the Burning Man festival, the artist – who has been documenting events, people, and stories for more than five decades – turns his gaze inward.

Romualdas Požerskis, one of the most prominent followers of humanist photography, turned his gaze to the inner world of ordinary people. Despite strict Soviet censorship, he spent decades documenting religious festivals and the old towns of Lithuanian cities. In his first feature-length film, director Joris Skudra allows the artist’s portrait to unfold simply and humanly – giving the protagonist space to discover the rhythm of his own story and to reflect on the creative and life stages most important to him.” (Programme curator Giedrė Vyšniauskaitė)
