A hitman known as Ghost Dog owes his life to a mafia member, Louie, and follows all his orders unconditionally. This mysterious black assassin resides on a rooftop and lives by the code and philosophy of the samurai. His most loyal companions are pigeons that deliver messages with assignments. But the criminal world is ruthless – not everyone follows the code of honor, and in the end, Ghost Dog finds himself a target.

“In the world of mafia films, Jim Jarmusch’s take flips the genre on its head - mocking its clichés while simultaneously elevating its assassin protagonist to the level of a calculated, near-mythical figure. The mob bosses here are as clumsy and absurd as cartoon villains, yet the film maintains the image of the lone hitman, a trope cinema has long romanticized. This is more than satire as it distorts the world it ridicules, blurring the lines between film and reality. As if cinematic symbols themselves had stepped into our world, only to return to the screen as hollowed-out simulations.” (Programme curator Vladas Rožėnas)
