Meet Franz Kafka, a young man trapped in a bureaucratic job that eerily resembles the reality of today’s corporations. A vegetarian by conviction when it was not yet common. The son of a tyrannical father, entangled in fragile relationships with women. A person plunged into an existential crisis well before French philosophers began discussing it widely. Misunderstood, he escaped into a world of irony, absurdity, and imagination, writing literary works that would make him one of the most influential writers of the 20th century.

“A kaleidoscopic, fragmented narrative invites viewers on a feverish journey through Franz Kafka’s universe. Master filmmaker Agnieszka Holland sets herself a considerable challenge and finds a distinctive way to speak about an author about whom it seems everything has already been said. She reveals a life that was paradoxically simple and short, yet even a modest body of work left behind permanently changed the history of world literature.” (Programme curator Giedrė Vyšniauskaitė)
