The program is presented by

Indianapolis, February 1977. Tony Kiritsis, out of balance after a predatory real estate deal, bursts into a corporate office carrying a sawed-off shotgun and a plan that will captivate the attention of all Americans. He wires a shotgun to the broker’s neck and connects the trigger to his hand. If Tony is shot or if he releases the wire, the broker will die. The drama is broadcast live on television, and Kiritsis transforms from a desperate extortionist into a hero in a country disillusioned with the system.

„Gus Van Sant returns to true-life cinema, masterfully combining a hostage drama with biting humor and social commentary. Bill Skarsgård delivers a phenomenal portrait of Tony – not just a criminal, but the embodiment of middle-class rage. The film sharply resonates with today’s polarization and hatred toward the corporate elite. You can sense the echoes of Sidney Lumet’s Dog Day Afternoon and the recently much-discussed Luigi Mangione’s story.” (Programme curator Karolis Žukas)
