Soviet Union, 1937. Thousands of people, falsely accused and imprisoned by the regime, have their complaints burned in prison cells. Yet one of them unexpectedly falls into the hands of newly appointed district prosecutor Alexander Kornev. A young, idealistic Bolshevik, he suspects foul play. His search for justice leads him to the General Prosecutor’s Office in Moscow. There, he confronts a totalitarian regime that refuses to acknowledge this name.

“Two Prosecutors is marked by a cold, detached gaze. The camera acts as an objective observer, capturing not only faces but the very architecture of the space, oppressive to the human spirit. Sergey Loznitsa does not judge his protagonists directly; he allows us to see how the system slowly drains their souls, leaving only functions and uniforms, and poses the question: is it possible to remain just within an unjust system? This is a film about the erosion of humanity.” (Programme curator Karolis Žukas)
