Composer Philip Glass once said of the musician and dancer, a contemporary of his, Meredith Monk, “Out of all of us, she had – and still has – the most unique talent.” This film portrait tells the story of a creator who entered the art world already possessing a distinctive vision she refused to abandon under any circumstances. Starting with the time when reviewers referred to the first performances of Monk as “disgrace” and finishing with her becoming a legend of experimental music. Her life’s work is accompanied by the artist’s own words and music performed in her own voice.

“Unfortunately, music documentaries are not the easiest genre. Talking heads that both explain and kill the joy of art itself, too often drown out the music. Meredith Monk’s portrait manages to capture the author’s multifaceted personality while never losing sight of what should matter most here: the work itself, with its eclectic and sometimes uncomfortable sound.” (Programme curator Vladas Rožėnas)
