Jim Jarmush Retrospective
Kicked out of his home by his girlfriend, New Orleans DJ Zack is desperate for quick cash. He takes on what seems like a simple job—delivering a stolen car—but he is caught by the police and ends up behind bars. In the same cell, he meets Jack, a pimp betrayed by his own associate. Before long, they are joined by Roberto, an Italian tourist with poor English but sharp instincts. When Roberto spots an opportunity to escape, the gang of three soon find themselves free – lost in the swamps of Louisiana.

“When it comes to humour, this Jarmusch film is in a league of its own. Rich in atmosphere, yet unusually packed with action, guns, escapes, and conflict, Down by Law strikes a perfect balance between mood and narrative. It has been somewhat overlooked in recent years, though only because Jarmusch never stopped making good films.” (Programme curator Vladas Rožėnas)
