Palestinian refugees Chatila and Reda, hiding in the backstreets of Athens, are barely making ends meet. To save money for fake passports and escape to Germany, they resort to petty theft and scams. However, their plans are thwarted by Reda’s drug addiction: he loses his hard-earned money. Frustrated, Chatila hatches a risky plan to pose as a smuggler and take hostages to save himself and his best friend from a desperate situation.

“Mahdi Fleifel tells a realistic story, with characters who balance between hope and despair. While maintaining a deeply humanistic outlook, the film speaks of the human need for dignity and a living space that transcends superficial clichés. In everyday life marked by refugee status, the characters emerge not only as hostages to their fate but also as living human beings fighting for their existence in a world that seems to have no place for them.” (Programme curator Karolis Žukas)
