In a remote village in northern India, a young woman named Santosh is struck by tragedy when her husband, a police constable, is killed during riots. In order to save her home, she is forced to take over her husband's duties. When she finds herself thrust into a corrupt, male-dominated world, Santosh begins to investigate the murder of a young girl. Led by a charismatic but strict inspector, she confronts deeply entrenched misogyny, the caste system, and violence. This case becomes not only a battle against the dark side of society but also a test of Santosh’s inner strength.

“Santosh marks the feature film debut of documentary filmmaker Sandhya Suri, offering a perspective on India rarely seen on screen. Systemic corruption, social hierarchy, and deeply rooted patriarchy highlight the gap between the country’s push for progress and the conservative realities of smaller communities. This gripping and deeply moving film immerses viewers in an unjust world through the eyes of one of the most compelling female protagonists in recent cinema, powerfully portrayed by Shahana Goswami.” (Programme curator Benita Paplauskaitė)
