Northern Germany, a few months before the start of World War I. A peaceful and happy community is suddenly shaken by cruel and incomprehensible attacks. The doctor's horse falls after tripping on a wire stretched across the road, someone smashes the cabbages growing in the patches with a scythe and sets fire to the hay in the barn, a horrifying incident takes place at the mill. Who is responsible for these crimes?

"In 2010, The White Ribbon became a major event in auteur cinema, both worldwide and in Lithuania. This film also left an indelible impression on me, not only because of its cinematic language (black and white imagery, precise shot composition, ascetic sound), but also because of its compelling study of human actions – evil, fear, violence, power. The film is often referred to as a study of the origins and causes of National Socialism, so watching it today involuntarily raises the question – where do the roots of evil in current events lie?"
