Special Screenings
The enigmatic Dr. Caligari arrives in a small German town, accompanied by his assistant Cesare – a man in a state of perpetual slumber, obediently carrying out his master's commands. Soon, several murders take place in town and the locals begin to suspect that the doctor and his eerie companion may be responsible. One of the most iconic masterpieces in film history, the chilling and radically expressionist The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari will once again captivate audiences, this time with a fresh sonic dimension provided by Lithuanian psychedelic rock band Garbanotas."

“Inspiring generations of filmmakers—from Alfred Hitchcock to Tim Burton—The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari redefined cinematic storytelling and became one of the most prominent examples of German Expressionism. Its iconic visual style, a narrative inspired by real events, a sharp critique of authoritarianism, coupled with the prevailing fears of manipulation and control in the aftermath of the First World War – it’s no wonder the film is often hailed as the first true horror movie.” (Programme curator Benita Paplauskaitė)
