For several years before his death, composer Ryuichi Sakamoto was unable to perform live. However, at the end of 2022, he mustered up his strength and staged one last performance, creating a concert-like film featuring just him and a piano. The concert begins in the early morning light as Sakamoto takes the stage. As the day breaks, the pieces, performed in the order of his choice, span his entire career, from his period of pop stardom in the Yellow Magic Orchestra to the wonderful soundtracks of Bertolucci’s films and his last album, 12. It’s not just a concert, it’s a meditation on time and creativity and a farewell to one of Japan’s greatest composers.
