The documentary film Riefenstahl examines the complex life and legacy of the famous German filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl. The film looks at her rise to fame as a dancer and actress, her controversial role as Hitler’s favorite filmmaker, and her later attempts to distance herself from Nazi ideology. Using archival footage, interviews and expert analysis, the film explores the ethical dilemmas faced by artists who create works of unquestionable beauty in the service of horrific regimes, raising questions about the relationship between art, propaganda, and personal responsibility.

“A masterfully crafted documentary that sparks urgent discussions about the role of the artist in today’s society. Can art be separated from politics? What influence do artists have on the world around them? How should we view those who once catered to oppressive regimes? Which artists deserve to have their sculptures in public squares? Whose names belong on our streets and in school textbooks? This film challenges us to confront these questions head-on.” (Head of Programme Dovilė Grigaliūnaitė)
