When you’re three, you see a lot, but you don’t yet understand all of it. Growing up in a Belgian family, Amélie forms a special bond with her nanny Nishio-san, which opens the little girl up to the wonders of nature, the magic of everyday life, and the rich culture of a foreign country. The enchanting animation invites you to look at 1960s Japan through the eyes of little Amélie – full of wonder and the joy of discovering the world.

“One of the most beautiful and memorable animated films I’ve seen this year, speaking to children in their own language. It is about curiosity, first questions, and feelings that are sometimes hard to put into words, no matter how old you are. Without preaching or excessive explanation, little Amélie helps us recognize emotions, understand others, and believe that sensitivity is, after all, a great strength. I do not doubt that this curious girl will inspire not only children, but their parents as well.” (Programme curator Benita Paplauskaitė)
