Three years after her mother’s death, 11-year-old Karin is dealt another blow when her delinquent father abandons her to live with her grandfather, a Buddhist monk. Living with them in the temple is Anzu, a ghost cat: sarcastic, flatulent, but ultimately kind-hearted. Overcome with melancholy due to her father’s actions and her mother’s loss, Karin, along with Anzu, embarks on a journey to the afterlife, hoping to find a way to bring her mother back.

“Ghost Cat Anzu was selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight program, which is a rare achievement in the history of anime films. Staying true to the spirit of the original manga, the film’s storytelling and playful animation are sure to captivate fans of Hayao Miyazaki.” (Programme curator Karolis Žukas)
