Thirteen-year-old Karolina dreams of joining her older sister’s choir. Dozens of girls like her cluster around the charismatic choirmaster, so when Karolina receives a last-minute invitation to join the older girls on a trip, she can hardly believe her luck. However, getting among the chosen ones was the easiest part. Now she faces not only daily tests from her teachers, but also a toxic atmosphere among the girls. Even Karolina’s sister, for some reason, seems eager to have her expelled from the choir as soon as possible.

“This film is based on a true story about the Czech girls’ choir Bambini di Praga, whose leader was convicted of sexually abusing several dozen girls. The director subtly opens the inner worlds of the main characters and reveals the complex dynamics of adolescent relationships marked by jealousy, competition, helplessness, but also by the desire to find one’s own voice and place in the world.” (Programme curator Giedrė Vyšniauskaitė)
