Screen 9
Eight Postcards from Utopia is a found footage documentary made entirely of advertisements from post-socialist Romania. These documents from Romania’s long transition period, brought together as a whole, speak of life, love and death, the body and human fragility, nature and the supernatural, recent history, and, of course, socialism and capitalism.

“The experimental film by Romanian director Radu Jude, well known to Kino Pavasaris' audience, and philosopher Christian Ferencz-Flatz, will flood viewers with early '90s nostalgia. Filled with absurd humor unique to that era, the commercials shown on screen today become an essential part of Romania's history, capturing the country’s economic and cultural transformation. Interestingly, the film also features several works directed by Radu Jude himself, who began his career in advertising.” (Programme curator Benita Paplauskaitė)
