A solitary businessman has been living in a hotel in an unnamed Swiss city for eight years. He is impeccably dressed, drives a luxurious BMW, and smokes expensive cigars. The man always carries a briefcase full of cash, yet no one knows what he actually does for a living. Most of the time he appears to be devoid of any emotion, indifferent to his surroundings. But one day, he unexpectedly breaks out of his own rigid ways and strikes up a conversation with Sofia, the hotel bartender. What seems like a trivial encounter at first turns his world upside down – bringing emotions, love, the mafia, and death back into his life.

"This was one of the first films I selected for Kino Pavasaris back in 2004. At that time, audiences in Lithuania watched it twice due to its enigmatic interpretations. It will be interesting to revisit this early Sorrentino film after the springboard created by The Great Beauty, Youth, and The Hand of God, when the Italian Maestro revealed his determination to create highly stylish films alongside the virtuoso of the moving camera, Luca Bigazzi. The phenomenal performance by his irreplaceable, almost permanent actor, Toni Servillo, embodies the melancholy of this sentimentally ironic thriller." (Edvinas Pukšta)
