Screenings at LNDT
A business journey takes the unsuspecting realtor Hutter from the port city of Wisborg to Transylvania. There he enters into a sales contract with the sinister Count Orlok for a property in his hometown. The next morning, Hutter wakes up with small bite wounds on his neck and realizes that Orlok is a vampire. But is unable to prevent the Count from traveling to Wisborg and bringing plague and death to the small town. Hutter's wife Ellen has sensed the impending tragedy and sees only one way to save the town... A musical composition created especially for this film will be performed on a handmade Baroque lute and electric guitar by Dutch composer Jozef van Wissem. In 2013, at the Cannes Film Festival, he was awarded for the best soundtrack for Jim Jarmusch's film Only Lovers Left Alive.

“While composing the score for Nosferatu, composer Jozef van Wissem stumbled upon a double 7-inch vinyl in the streets of Rotterdam - a recording of songs from extinct birds. The soundtrack opens with a solo lute, later expanding into electric guitar and weaving in modified thsese found recordings. Over its 90-minute runtime, the composition shifts from serenity to dense, slow-moving death metal. To van Wissem, the lute is a thoroughly modern instrument. With it alone, he captivates audiences, unafraid of both pure beauty and bold experimentation. His delicate melodies seem to suspend time itself. He not only liberates the lute but also challenges the audience to free themselves from conventional ways of listening to music.” (Programme curator Karolis Žukas)
