“Why are you reading that? Don't you have anything better to do? Ugh, you’d be better off doing something useful for society…” – that's exactly the kind of thing the fiery and ever-critical Pansy would snap at you. Her son, husband, sister, cashiers, doctors – everyone is subjected to the avalanche of her fury. But where does her dissatisfaction with the world come from? “Legendary British director Mike Leigh returns to the genre that made him most famous: the family drama. His films have an uncanny ability to distil life down to its essence, to reveal its most vivid shades and touch the deepest nerves, all while maintaining a sense of naturalism. The result? A blend of sadness and humour, bleakness and hope. Watching his films, you feel as if real life is unfolding on screen – even when it’s fiction.” (Programme curator Vladas Rožėnas)
