The daily life of Nana, who lives on a volcanic island, flows like a dream. We follow the girl through different stages of her development - from the time she was abandoned by her mother as a young child, to adolescence, when Nana herself has to make adult decisions. It is not only an external but also an internal journey, in which premonitions, dreams, and fears are no less important than events. From these various details emerges a complete person.

"For those who appreciate poetic cinema, Hanami offers a cinematic experience of a completely different world, operating with its own rules and norms. The work is told in such beautiful cinematic language that it’s hard to believe it was made by a debuting director. Each scene is like a small etude. And while this isn’t one of those films that I feel I fully understand, it seems that its narrative doesn’t always require everything to be grasped by the mind." (Programme curator Vladas Rožėnas)
