A young woman finds her voice through the written word and her salvation as a swimmer – ultimately becoming a triumphant teacher, mother and a singular modern writer.
This is “The Chronology of Water”, the debut feature from Kristen Stewart, based on the memoir of Lithuanian-origin writer Lidia Yuknavitch. The visual and vibrant story details the self-proclaimed language bandit’s journey through trauma, addiction, and finding her voice through writing. Yuknavitch, an icon in the US literary world, is portrayed by Imogen Poots.
About the movie: Swimming is not just a sport for Lidia, but also her only safe refuge from a difficult everyday life: an abusive father and an emotionally distant mother. However, the tranquility of the pool does not protect her from the later blows of fate: a rebellious adolescence, battles with addiction, and the shattering experience of losing her firstborn child. Lidia drowns in her pain in order to resurface again. The path to healing leads through writing and the courage to accept her body and her past as they were – unpolished and real.
