Visionary architect László Tóth, a holocaust survivor, flees war-torn Europe, hoping to build a new life in America. After a series of trials, his fortunes begin to improve – his long-lost wife Erzsébet arrives from Europe, and a mysterious, wealthy client, Harrison Van Buren, commissions him to design a grand modernist monument. This most ambitious project of László’s career will not only elevate him and his wife to dizzying heights but also force them to question the promise of the American Dream.

“The Brutalist is a film that must be seen in theaters – a visually stunning and emotionally powerful epic exploring the immigrant experience in post-war America. Adrien Brody delivers a commanding performance as Holocaust survivor László Tóth. The film also features outstanding performances by Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones. All three of whom are Oscar nominees. The VistaVision film, which was last used 60 years ago, and the majestic soundtrack create an enchanting atmosphere. If you thought films like Once Upon a Time in America, The Godfather, and Fitzcarraldo were a thing of the past – fear not, because now we have The Brutalist. The film runs for 3 hours and 30 minutes, but the only thing that feels too long is the intermission in the middle.” (Programme curator Karolis Žukas)
