“The perfect choice for Romanian cinema fans, The New Year Never Came marks Bogdan Mureșanu’s striking debut - a darkly comic yet deeply moving portrait of a society teetering on the brink of revolution. Through its interwoven character arcs, the film captures the absurdity and unease of life in Romania just days before the collapse of Ceaușescu’s regime. This unique and unforgettable look at a pivotal historical moment reminds us that even in times of political upheaval, the human spirit, and above all, a sense of humor, endures, and life, in all its chaotic beauty, goes on.” (Programme curator Karolis Žukas)
