Added to my films
A hot summer day. Cherry branches weighed down by ripe berries are dangling over the roof of a summer house. Recently retired father invites his son to help him with the cherry picking in the garden. The father is in no hurry to finish the cherry job though, as he tries to catch up with his son. The cherries remain in the background.

“Vytautas Katkus' films are always surprising. Usually, they leave us with a smile and warmth. Cherries puts a spell on the viewer. It seems to have so many oddities and unfinished phrases, but it also tells so much that it leaves food for thought for weeks. It features Vytautas, his father, and friends, but after watching it, I felt as if I was there myself: I climbed onto a hot roof, squeezed ripe cherries between my fingers, and felt their bursting color, smell, acidity... The film is also about something hard to describe – that bittersweet feeling of returning home. This is just one subjective perspective, and every viewer will perceive the film differently. It was important for us to open the festival with a film that gives power to the viewer's participation in creating the film's meaning.” (Aistė Račaitytė)
