Programme
Kyoko suddenly leaves her husband after spending five days glued to the earthquake footage on TV. Her husband Komura takes a week’s leave from work and travels to deliver a mysterious box to two young women. Katagiri, a simple debt collector and an awkward loner, joins the frog in saving Tokyo. In these stories by Murakami, where dreams, visions, and reality magically intertwine, they search for a missing cat and something more.
“In recent years, with Lee Chang-dong's ‘Burning’ or Ryusuke Hamaguchi's ‘Drive My Car’, we have seen that the work of Japanese writer Haruki Murakami is perfectly suited for screen adaptations. But to convey the magical realism and gentle absurdity of these short Murakami stories it was animation that was ideal. If you still think that animation can only interest children, it's time to change your mind.” (Dovilė Grigaliūnaitė)
