Three generations of a family, from a surreal memory of World War II to modern day Berlin, are unable to process their past in a society still coping with the wounds of its history. Like the water that connects the episodes in this triptych, memory and identity are fluid, and how we relate to it can drown or buoy. The pain and stigma trickles from Eva to Lena and then Jonas. While generational traumas find new expressions in the present, the family and society look towards a more hopeful future.

Director's biography
Kornél Mundruczó (b. 1975), a Hungarian film director, studied at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Hungary. His first film Pleasant Days (2002) was awarded the Silver Leopard in Locarno and his following works all premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. In every film since White God (2014), which won Un Certain Regard Award, he is collaborating with playwright and screenwriter Kata Wéber. Their collaboration Pieces of a Woman (2020) was his first English-language film and premiered in Venice.
