Three generations of a family, from a surreal memory of World War II to modern day Berlin, are unable to process their past in a society still coping with the wounds of its history. Like the water that connects the episodes in this triptych, memory and identity are fluid, and how we relate to it can drown or buoy. The pain and stigma trickles from Eva to Lena and then Jonas. While generational traumas find new expressions in the present, the family and society look towards a more hopeful future.

The theme of antisemitism repeatedly appears in theater and cinema genius’s Kornél Mundruczó oeuvre and once again become an axis for his new film which provokingly asks – can we speak about its end? Or has antisemitism insidiously changed faces? Suggestive storytelling weaves historical and contemporary contexts to remind the most important: a brighter future is possible only after reconciliation with the dark of the past.” (Aistė Račaitytė)
