In the near future, the villagers of Bacurau are mourning the loss of their matriarch Carmelita. Her grand-daughter Teresa returns home for the funeral and discovers dramatic problems - the cut-off of drinking water, shortage of medicine. Furthermore, Bacurau, which means the nightjar bird, has almost vanished from the maps. And yet, all kinds of strangers still wander by - some of them with extremely sinister intentions. This socio-political allegory received the Cannes Jury Prize.

"Science fiction, detective story, thriller, neo-western, social drama, dystopia - all of these genres can be found in Bacurau." It is one of those films that convey the wide thematic amplitude of FUTURE - one of the main themes of this year's festival, and perhaps of world cinema. I am sure you will easily unwarp the multi-layered subtext of the film." (Dovilė Raustytė-Mateikė)
