Divine G, an inmate at Sing Sing prison, awaits a new hearing of his case. He finds purpose in the passing years by performing with a theatre troupe—staging productions ranging from Shakespeare to original comedies about time travel. It is no wonder that the imprisoned members of the troupe are periodically overwhelmed by anger and despair, longing for distant freedom and the loved ones they miss. Yet, art has a way of transforming negative emotions into beauty. The film is based on the true stories from members of the prison troupe, with most actors portraying themselves.

“For those who seek inspiration in cinema and recognise how art can help overcome melancholy, Sing Sing may become one of the most memorable films of the year. Willing to laugh at themselves, the former inmates open up as if to say: creativity is a continuous process, and it is not the result that provides solace, but the act of creation itself.” (Programme curator Vladas Rožėnas)
