An intelligent and charming young man Batko Stamenov is the ideal secret agent. Orphaned at an early age, he was adopted by his aunt, who later confessed to having been his real mother. But when she passes away and the doctor informs Batko that she died a virgin, it becomes clear to him that lying is a family trait. He is hired by the secret police as an informant in communist Bulgaria. A mistake gets him fired. Batko creates his own, alternative network of spies, which he will later use to mess with the new regime. Meanwhile, he falls in love with a beautiful girl who dreams of defecting.
