Set in the seaside town of Mohang, "In Another Country" is divided into three separate stories which follow three different yet strikingly similar characters named Anne, all of them played by the great Isabelle Huppert. Anne One is a successful film director who is invited for a holiday at a coastal resort by her friend, a Korean filmmaker named Jong-soo – who, notwithstanding the presence of his very pregnant wife is intent on rekindling the intimacy he shared with Anne when they met at a film festival. Anne Two is a married bourgeoise who has come to Mohang to share an adulterous idyll with her secret Korean lover. In an inversion of the second episode, Anne Three is a divorced woman whose husband left her for a Korean woman, and who has come to visit a friend in Mohang in order to fend off the melancholy prospect of spending her summer holidays alone. In each segment, the assorted Annes meet and interact with the same group of people, each encounter producing a set of intriguing outcomes and new possibilities.
