Ian is blind. He is also confident, assured and, most notably, he walks without a cane. He is initially treated with skepticism, but talks his way into the institute by explaining and displaying his process: he is not only fully alert to the sounds and smells around him at all times, he also "imagines" the landscape through which he walks. This allows him to navigate his way around solid objects and to locate things. Intrigued but not convinced, the institute’s supervisor gives Ian a room, where he finds himself a window away from a young woman, Eva, who has just broken her cane and wants him to teach her how to walk without assistance. Ian and Eva’s trips into the chaos and clamour of the streets.
