The Good Boss
El Buen Patrón
2021 Spain 120 min N-13
Added to my films
Blanco (Javier Bardem), the charismatic owner of a family-run factory, is under pressure as he covets a local award for business excellence. Everything needs to be perfect! But the veneer of the perfect company cracks as Blanco has to deal with a vengeful fired worker, a depressed supervisor, and an infatuated ambitious intern. The “good boss” shamelessly meddles in his employees’ private lives and crosses every line imaginable, starting a chain reaction with unforeseeable consequences.

“A runaway hit both abroad (shortlisted for the Oscars) and at home (receiving a record 20 nominations at Spain’s Goya Film Awards), The Good Boss is easily one of the funniest films of this (past) year. With a devilishly charming Javier Bardem leading the manufacturing line with a career-high performance, de Aranoa fine-tunes his satire of morally corrupt corporate culture to deliver a laugh-out-loud tragicomedy that hits every target in its social hierarchy.” (Andrei Tănăsescu)

World Premiere: San Sebastian Film Festival, 2021
