Alice and Neil Bennett (Charlotte Gainsbourg and Tim Roth), with two teenagers, are wealthy Britons on vacation in Acapulco. Their trip is cut short by a call about a sudden death in a family. When one of them disrupts the family’s tight-knit order, simmering tensions rise to the fore. Continuing his exploration of individuals and societies under pressure, writer-director Michel Franco (New Order, “Kino Pavasaris”) creates a suspenseful mystery about the family which is more than meets the eye.
“Both pleasure and unnerving experience. While Michel Franco touches upon his usual topics of class tensions and violence, he mostly follows character created together with Tim Roth. He plays to the perfection someone who is deeply disturbed, seems to both care, and not care, all at the same time. With every bizarre plot twist and with every decision made, one is left wondering, gathering the clues, questioning ones own assumptions.” (Ignė Smilingytė)
World Premiere: Venice Film Festival, Official Competition, 2021
