On a vacation in Tuscany, a Danish family instantly befriends a Dutch family. Months later the Danish couple receive an unexpected invitation to visit the Dutch in their secluded house in the woods and decide to go for the weekend. However, it doesn't take long before the joy of reunion is replaced with misunderstandings. The Danish family now find themselves trapped in a house, they wish they had never entered, where psychological satire heads straight for horror.
“With his third feature outing, Tafdrup delivers with pitch-perfect tension a deeply unsettling parable of middle-class passivity. Taking its cues from both Haneke and the best “perfect strangers” horror tropes, Speak No Evil explores the boundaries of social (dis)comfort as an idyllic weekend-reunion takes a turn for the worst. At each twisted turn of events and growing uneasiness, Tafdrup makes us question its protagonists, mirroring our society’s weakened limits of (re)action.” (Andrei Tănăsescu)
