Los Angeles, nowadays. Henry (Adam Driver) is a stand-up comedian with a fierce sense of humor, Ann (Marion Cotillard) is a singer of international renown. In the spotlight, they are the perfect couple, healthy, happy, and glamourous. The birth of their first child, Annette, a mysterious girl with an exceptional gift, will change their lives.
“‘So may we start?’ Leos Carax inquires at the very beginning of the film through the voice of The Sparks. ‘Oh, yes, please! You may start’ is what the spectator will think. An absolute cinema experience, a visionary work of the Master, which although so majestic breathes intimate and honest. On guilt and (im)perfection, an ode to Love. The performances of Adam Driver, Marion Cotillard and Simon Helberg are inspired.” (Marija Fridinovaitė)
World Premiere: Cannes Film Festival Official Competition, 2021
Awards: Award for Best Director Cannes Film Festival 2021
