Calm, taciturn teenager Venera lives under the watchful gaze of her family and the small, close-knit community of her Kosovo village. Expected to protect her own and her family's good reputation above all, Venera cheers up when she befriends the rebellious Dorina, who's freely exploring the emancipation of adolescence. While Venera's hunger for freedom only grows, she sees Dorina give in to the demands of her family. With few choices available to her, Venera must make her own decisions.
"Norika Sefa delivers one of the most potent debuts of this year, channelling precise directorial control through the revelatory lead performance of Kosovare Krasniqi's Venera. A subtle, intimate coming-of-age film, "Looking for Venera" is an empowering portrait of self-discovery delivered with a sensibility towards the authentic awkwardness and latent maturity of adolescence."
