Searching for a new form, Med Hondo has eschewed all conventional narrative. In the beginning, we see black men line up before a white priest for baptism and renaming – the first step in a process that simultaneously deracinates and subjugates them. After a couple more ironic scenes begins the story of a young man who arrives in Paris from Africa with high hopes. What he finds is unemployment or a handful of 'dirty' jobs, unacceptable living conditions, naked racism, and bureaucratic indifference.

"I still remember the premiere of Med Hondo's restored films in Bologna – the director couldn't hold back tears seeing his films on the big screen again. His voice is one of the most sincere not only in African cinema but overall, spreading hope for a world without inequality and aspiration for new sensibility and awareness." (Mantė Valiūnaitė)
