Goodbye Mister Wong
Goodbye Mister Wong
2020 Laos, France 106 min N-13
Added to my films
On the shores of Lake Nam Ngum in Northern Laos, two destinies cross paths. One follows a young woman named France, who is helping her mother save their family business. She is sought after by two men from opposite worlds. The other story concerns Hugo, a Frenchman in search of the woman who left him a year earlier. Shot on 16mm, this film captures the beauty of the landscape and people's inner feelings, while subtly commenting on China's influence and inevitable change.

"Longing, love, waiting sail back and forth in small boats on a big lake, accompanied by Laotian melodies. One of this year's most beautiful and unexpected discoveries. The film's atmosphere echoes books by Marguerite Duras." (Mantė Valiūnaitė)
