1774, a few years before the French Revolution. A forest somewhere between Potsdam and Berlin. A group of libertines, expelled from the Puritan court of Louis XVI, secretly discuss and practice the new liberating philosophy of libertinism. Lustful fantasies turn into passion, refined torture to pure ecstasy. Freedom of bodies and mind, of ideas and art swirl in the twilight-embraced shrubs and carriages. This film won the Special Jury Prize of Un Certain Regard at Cannes Film Festival.
"Defiant to any rules of film-making, Catalan director Albert Serra is often called a radical classicist. His newest work is one of the brightest cinematic experiences of 2019. It's daring, intellectual, visionary and truly free-spirited." (Gediminas Kukta)
