Djibril Diop Mambety adapts a timeless parable of human greed into a biting satire of today's Africa. Linguère Ramatou is a beautiful woman who has returned to her African village after being kicked out three decades earlier. While Linguère has done well for herself, her home village has fallen on hard economic times. Everyone waits for her as for the saviour. Linguere makes a proposal: She will help the town financially, if the locals agree to revenge her previous lover.
