For Abbas Kiarostami’s first feature drama made outside Iran (in Italy), British opera singer William Shimell made his acting debut with a dazzling performance alongside Juliette Binoche. James Miller, visiting Tuscany to promote his new book, meets “her”, who runs an art gallery, and they tour the countryside. After being mistaken for a married couple at a café, they think and act like man and wife. Accordingly, their dialogue shifts from intellectual to emotional; the topic of authentic versus counterfeit moves from paintings to human relationships. During the tour, they see a famous copy at a museum in Tuscany. Both of Miller and “she” do appreciate the depth of life, just like an old wine, while having pure emotions.
