Whores' Glory
S
Added to my films
"Whores’ Glory" is a cinematic triptych on prostitution: three countries, three languages, three religions. In Thailand, women wait for clients behind glass panes, staring at the reflections of themselves. In Bangladesh, men go to a ghetto of love to satisfy their unfulfilled desires on indentured girls. And in Mexico, women pray to a female death to avoid facing their own reality. In worlds where the most intimate act has become a commodity, these women have physically and emotionally experienced everything that can happen between a man and a woman. For this they have always received money, but it has not made their lives rich in anything but stories.

About Directors

Michael Glawogger (b. 1959 in Graz, Austria) studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and the Vienna Film Academy. He is a director, a writer and a cinematographer and his work in each of these roles displays a broad spectrum. His recent works range from the literary adaptation "Kill Daddy Good Night" (2009) and comedies "Slugs" (2004) and "Contact High" (2009) to his essayist documentaries "Megacities" (1998) and "Wokingman's Death" (2005). He not only moves back and forth between cinematic forms and genres, but also between filmmaking, photography and writing - and between gentler and more forceful tones. With "Whores' Glory" he completes his trilogy on the world of work. Selected filmography: "Ant Street" (1995), "Megacities" (1998, doc), "France, Here We Come!" (2000, doc), "State of the Nation: Austria in Six Chapters" (2002, doc), "Slugs" (2004), "Wokingman's Death" (2005, doc, "Kino pavasaris"), "Slumming" (2006), "Kill Daddy Good Night" (2009), "Contact High" (2009), "Whores' Glory" (2011, doc, "Kino pavasaris").
